Dealing With Foreign Associates
In general, U.S. patent attorneys have no authority to represent their clients before foreign patent offices. U.S. attorneys can practice before the International Bureau (IB) of the PCT, but in other cases U.S. attorneys must use a foreign patent attorney or agent. Our office handles a considerable amount of foreign prosecution, and I have gained some insight into preferred ways of conducting business abroad.
