Indian patent applications can be filed in English. India now requires absolute novelty.

Mail delivery to Indian patent firms seems to be among the worst in the world. Until the advent of email, it was not uncommon to spend days trying to fax over a draft patent application to an Indian patent firm. Communication with an Indian associate should occur by email.

India does provide for interested persons giving written notice of opposition against a patent application during pendency of the application, and until one year after publication. Divisionals can be filed upon request, as a remedy to a rejection or for any other reason.
