Filing Tips

Utility patent applications must be filed in Korean; foreign language filings are not permitted. After January 1, 2006, the Korean patent office (KIPO) will no longer requires Korean translations of prior art documents .

Korea has an absolute novelty bar, but only for inventions known or used in Korea. There is a 6 month grace period for prior disclosure.
